Khangura launches online NRI Voter Registration

Qila Raipur MLA Jassi Khangura today announced the launch of an internet facility aimed at getting more qualifying NRIs to vote in the forthcoming elections.

As an enhancement to his political website today Jassi Khangura published www.qilaraipur.org/NRIVote.html

Alarmed that till date as few as, according to media reports, only 35 NRIs had registered to vote in India, NIL in Ludhiana, and Jassi decided that given the time difference between India and overseas countries a web based facility would be the best guide.

Jassi stated that as official notifications and forms can be difficult for many to comprehend, this new facility endeavours to simplify the whole process.

Khangura added that any NRI can visit the www.qilaraipur.org/NRIVote.html page and get a clear, simple, click through guide to how to apply.

There is even a facility for voters of Dakha Halqa to send their application direct to Jassi's office for further processing to the relevant local election body.

Khangura stressed that NRIs would play a critical, possibly decisive, role in the coming elections and he hopes that the maximum number of people will use this facility. He said that even if NRIs are not sure if they will be in India on polling day, they should register anyway in case they are as there is a hint that applications received after October will be held “pending” until after the elections.

Khangura added that Akali leaders have a habit of visiting the UK, USA and Canada to collect funds but they refrain from discussing NRI issues and never encourage NRIs to register for a vote.

The first time Qila Raipur MLA, himself a former NRI closed with his prediction that NRIs would overwhelmingly support Congress in the forthcoming Punjab Assembly elections.
