MUKTSAR: Gidderbaha Police have booked Kuljeet Singh, alias Montey Brar, and his wife Jaswinder Kaur for duping Hakam Singh, of Gidderbaha of ₹3.3 crore.
Hakam claimed that he had handed over the money to the couple in financial year 2015-16 on the pretext of bidding for liquor vends in the district. However, no liquor vend ownership came his way. The couple also did not return his money, the victim claimed.
Montey is the son of AAP leader Sant Singh Brar.
In 2012, Brar contested assembly election on a SAD ticket from Gidderbaha, but lost to Amrinder Singh Raja Warring. Sant Singh Brar contested the 2007 assembly polls as an independent candidate and was close to former CM Badal during SAD regime. Brar later joined the AAP.
Gidderbaha SHO inspector Narinder Singh said, “We have booked the couple under Sections 420, 506 and 120-B of the IPC.” The accused are still absconding. Montey could not be contacted.
