Sangrur : Gangster Ravi Deol has refuted the allegation levelled by local SAD leaders that he had surrendered with the help of Congress leaders.

“I have surrendered without the help of anyone as I want to live a peaceful life after facing all false FIRs registered against me,” Deol said today, while coming out of a local court, which sent him in judicial custody till February 23 in seven cases registered at the Sangrur police station.

The police, who had allowed Deol to speak to mediapersons on February 3, today tried to keep him away from the media. Being a Sunday, the court was closed and the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) team produced Deol in the court through the back door even as some policemen were deployed at the main gate. However, when media went to the back door, the CIA team tried to take Deol away through the main gate.

“The police have failed to recover any weapon from Deol during his 11 days of police remand and have only recovered a car from Patiala. The police wanted to extend the remand by two days, but the court sent Deol to the Sangrur jail till February 23,” said Ashwani Chaudhary, counsel of Deol.

Deol surrendered in the local court on January 30, and on February 3 while coming out of the court, Deol alleged that Amanveer Singh Cherry, OSD to former Union Akali minister Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, along with his close friend Manu, who works with the Education Department, made him a gangster and used him as their muscleman for all illegal acts.

However, Dhindsa and all senior leaders of SAD have accused Congress leaders of facilitating the surrender of Deol to tarnish the image of the Dhindsa family.

Sangrur SSP Mandeep Sidhu has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) for all eight cases registered against Deol in Sangrur district.
