Chandigarh : Taking up the matter with Congress president Rahul Gandhi, veteran trade unionist and permanent invitee of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) MM Singh Cheema has sought stern action against Punjab Minister Navjot Sidhu. He said that Sidhu has given irresponsible statements out of his sheer imagination during media interactions and public rallies organised by the Congress. Cheema opined that these kind of statements served no purpose to Congress party but it provided Sidhu cheap popularity. While condemning Sidhu’s behaviour, Cheema said, “Sidhu and his wife are just two years old in the party and they have no right to criticise the Chief Minister who has done a lot for the people of Punjab, especially for farmers. Sidhu, who is a star campaigner of the party, has enjoyed addressing large public gatherings countrywide at the cost of Congress party and was served many notices by the Election Commission for overstepping the code which has proved counterproductive and turned out to be a ‘self goal’ as other sections of the society took strong offence of his utterences.” Cheema has requested PPCC president and AICC in-charge not to remain silent on the issue which has been sending wrong signals to the party.
