Shri Nitesh Kumar, Chief Minister of Bihar, Old Sectt, Patna, Bihar

Dear Sir,
Deteriorating Security Situation in Punjab Should Not Deter Migrant Agricultural Labour from Bihar
For decades your state has assisted the hard pressed Punjab farmer by deputing a large number of agricultural labourers. This has to date been a mutually beneficial relationship that has consistently provided a reasonable reward for the labourer and better productivity for the Punjab farmer.
Many a Bihari stayed to make Punjab his new home.
This year, however, we are facing a major shortfall.
That this should coincide with the arrival of the Akali-Dal BJP government, which has triggered a marked deterioration in the prevailing law and order situation is, indeed, a tragedy.
You may recall that migrant labour was specifically targeted by militants during the dark days of Punjab’s recent past.
Whilst this time not targeting migrant labour, the incumbent Punjab government is allowing the overall law and order situation to become unhealthy on account of widespread state sponsored violence, as a result of which migrant labour inevitably becomes the innocent victim.
You are requested to:
- depute a fact finding team to Punjab
- lodge a strong protest with the Punjab CM
- strengthen Punjab-Bihar ties by motivating greater numbers of agricultural labour to Punjab.
We need your help.
Rest assured that the Punjab Congress will, as ever, resolutely defend the Bihari labour from the evil designs of the current administration.
Yours faithfully,
Jassi Khangura MLA
