Need to address women’s issues and tap their potential! - 10/02/2007

Jassi Khangura – the Congress candidate from Qila Raipur has highlighted that there is need to pay immediate attention to address women’s issues especially in rural areas.

He says no society can make sustained progress without the economic and social uplift of its womenPunjab does not have an impressive record in this area.

On the other hand, Punjabi women have proven time and time again that they are no less capable or entrepreneurial than the now globally acclaimed Punjabi men. They therefore represent an immense potential, which is so far grossly underutilized.

The womenfolk in rural parts face typical problems, which need special attention.

Though the government is doing a lot by designing and implementing special programmes targeted at raising awareness of such issues and promoting girl child education, etc., there is still a long way to go.

Jassi says that if elected, he will launch special initiatives to promote rural women’s healthcare & employment. He will also work toward an incentivised programme to encourage women’s participation in sports, small businesses etc.
