Start 3rd Shatabdi from Ludhiana to Delhi - 12/02/2008

Mr Lallu Prasad Yadav,
Hon. Railway Minister
25 Tughlak Road
New Delhi – 110011

12 February 2008

Dear Sir,

Start 3rd Shatabdi from Ludhiana to Delhi

Although Ludhiana is well served by the existing 2 Shatabdi trains that ply the Delhi - Amritsar route, there is strong justification to start a third "people friendly" Shatabdi from Ludhiana, especially as Ludhiana constitutes 45% of the inbound Shatabdi traffic to Delhi together with 30% of the outbound traffic from Delhi.

With current Shatabdi trains departing from Ludhiana to New Delhi at around 7am and 7pm a third train departing Ludhiana around 9am and returning from Delhi around 2pm would be a well-timed addition. At these times there would be no need for full meals to be served, just light snacks, as passengers would have the option to have their regular meals elsewhere. This reduced level of service should be reflected by an appropriate reduction in the fares.

The proposed LUDHIANA-DELHI SHATABDI should ideally be non-stop in both directions.

Current passenger statistics do not warrant the third Shatabdi being extended to Amritsar or Jalandhar.

I trust that this proposal will receive your full and favorable consideration.

Yours faithfully,
Jassi Khangura MLA
