Will the SAD-BJP government respond to the farmers' relief announced in the Union Budget with some contribution of its own? - 29/02/2008

Press Note

Will the SAD-BJP government respond to the farmers' relief announced in the Union Budget with some contribution of its own?

Today's union budget represents the biggest farmers relief package ever.

This was the critical need of the hour and the UPA government has responded in full.

Rs.60,000 crores of farmer debt relief, of which approximately Rs.12,000 will benefit Punjab farmers,  contrasts sharply with the niggardly NDA government which refused all calls for farmer debt relief.

Additional resources for agriculture and  irrigation will further benefit the Punjab farmer.

This has proved beyond doubt that the Congress party is the true friend of the suffering farmer.

Badal sahib instead of making misleading statements, should be garlanding the Prime Minister for these momentous decisions.

Now the challenge passes to the forthcoming Punjab budget and we shall soon now whether the Punjab government can offer any financial  assistance to the suffering Punjab farmer.

Mr Badal must act now to aid the rehabilitation of the needy Punjab farmer. Otherwise he will be exposed in full for being all talk and no substance.
