Failure to present bugdet befoe rural polls is a planned Akali-BJP conspiracy - 10/03/2008

PRESS NOTE

FAILURE TO PRESENT BUDGET BEFORE RURAL POLLS IS A PLANNED AKALI-BJP CONSPIRACY

Did this government not know that there was a fundamental conflict between the session dates and their declared announcements that polls would be held before Vaisakhi?

What is the urgency of the polls?

Why not present the budget as scheduled on 17th March and defer the rural polls to June?

The reality is that to this government of false promises dare not hold the rural polls AFTER the Punjab budget as they fear that they will be fully exposed by the contents of the Punjab Budget.

They want to withdraw subsidies, especially free power.

They have nothing financially to offer the Punjab farmer. They cannot even match 10% of the Union Rs.12,000 crores relief to the Punjab farmers.

This government is bankrupt both of ideas and of funds.
“part-payment”!!!

It does not even have the resources to pay for its flag-ship atta-dal scheme; even these have to be borrowed.

They have rejected and attacked the Union debt relief package. Yet unashamedly they are lobbying the Union Government to release Rs.2000 crores.

The Punjab budget will be a harsh budget. That is why they dare not present it now.
