Sixth all girl CHKM batch passes out - 17/08/2009

The sixth batch of the One-Year Certificate Course in Hospitality Kitchen Management (CHKM) passed out today. They were presented the certificates by Jassi Khangura, MLA Halqa Qila Raipur and Managing Director Hotel Majestic Park Plaza at a simple but impressive function organized in the hotel here today.

This batch exclusively comprised of the girls. There are 30 students in each batch and they are mostly drawn from the rural areas with a purpose to provide exposure to the rural youth so that they get good job placements.

The course is managed and sponsored by the Babu Joginder Singh Benevolent Trust (BJSBT), which also runs other technical courses and welfare programmes in the area.

Khangura said, the main purpose of this course was to provide job oriented education to the youth of the rural and backward areas. So far six batches of 30 candidates each have completed the course and most of them have been placed in best hotels across the country.

The course is affiliated and accredited to the Federation of Hotel and Restaurant Associations of India (FHRAI), which is the apex industry association at national level of all hotels and restaurants in India. FHRAI Institute of Hospitality Management established in the year 2005 started by offering a World-class programme in International Hospitality Administration and International Culinary Administration in collaboration with EHL, Switzerland.

The success of this initiative has prompted the institute to partner with Sarovar Hotels and Resorts to start focusing on other segments of the manpower demands of the industry by offering a short term course dedicated to food production and kitchen operations.

The programme admits 30 fresh students every quarter. The candidate should be 17 years of age at the time of commencement of the course and must have passed 10+2 in any discipline. However, for the scheduled caste and scheduled tribe candidates the educational qualification has been relaxed to 10th standard pass only.

The training is divided into three parts of 12 weeks each. First part is completed in the Hotel Majestic Park Plaza, which focuses mainly on communication and general awareness. For the second part the students undergo a residential training course at FHRAI Institute of Hospitality Management, Greater NOIDA. This is followed by the internship and industrial training in various hotels across the country. Students will be placed for on-the-job training in various sections of the kitchen at nominated Sarovar chain Hotels. During this period, the respective hotels provide lodging and in addition pay a token monthly stipend toward boarding and other expenses to the students.

On successful completion of the course examinations and practical training, students are awarded a certificate by Sarovar Hotels and Resorts.
