LifeBuilder and Sankara Eye Foundation partner to provide training opportunity to rural Girls - 06/09/2010

S. Jagpal Singh Khangura today held a function for LifeBuilder India to honour 40 girls from villages in Qila Raipur and Dakha areas who have been accepted on the Sankara Eye Hospital Vision  Care Technician Traning Program in Coimbatore.

S. Jagpal Singh Khangura said “I’m so proud that LifeBuilder India has been able to work with the Sankara Eye Foundation to provide this opportunity to the girls in our area.  So many of them have studied so hard but not found appropriate opportunities to continue studies or find good work locally.”  He went on to say “This training and employment, with such a reputable organisation, is a landmark opportunity.  We really thank Sankara Eye Foundation for choosing to work with us and hope we will work with them more in the future.”

S Jagpal Singh Khangura said the girls had all done exceptionally well in very competitive circumstances to earn their places to train as Vision Care Technicians, after which they will be placed as nurses at the Sankara Eye Hospital due to open shortly near Ludhiana.

Mr Steven Vincent, who runs a free IELTS course in village Latala for LifeBuilder India said “I’m really delighted... some girls who have worked so hard in my classes have managed to qualify for the training.  We’re all really pleased for them.  This is exactly what I came here to do, and to see such results is amazing.  I hope many more of my students go on to achieve their dreams too.”

The girls all feel that they are looking forward to being able to help their families in the future.  Most of them are from poorer economic backgrounds and their training and careers will make a positive difference to their families.

LifeBuilder India, of which S. Jagpal Singh Khangura is a Trustee, has been established to work with rural communities in Punjab to provide opportunities for upliftment, training, education and healthcare.  The Sankara Eye hospitals perform free eye surgery for needy individuals.  The training of the girls will also be sponsored by the Sankara Eye Foundation.
