Congress condemns Akalis’ attack on party workers, FIR against Jawaddi - 23/09/2010

LUDHIANA, September 22: The Congress has taken serious exception to the attack on the relatives of ex councilor Satwinder Jawaddi by the Akali goons led by councilor Tanveer Dhaliwal near here yesterday and a counter FIR against him (Jawaddi) despite the fact that he was not present at the place of incident.

Senior Congress leaders including former minister Milkiat Singh Dakha, MLA Jassi Khangura, former Ludhiana District Congress Committee president KK Bawa and Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee delegate Bhupinder Sidhu condemned the attack on the relatives and associates of Satwinder Jawaddi, an ex Congress Councilor.

Pointing out that the local police was clearly biased, they regretted that instead of taking action against the culprits the police had registered a counter FIR against Jawaddi who at the time of the incident was at village Chhapaar inspecting mela preparations along with other party colleagues.

The party leaders visited the injured at the DMC Hospital today. They said, this act of political vendetta was highly condemnable and is part of the Akali conspiracy to use illegal means to intimidate their opponents.

They added, the Congress will ensure that the assailants are called to account and thery committed their full support for Jawaddi. They stressed, this vengeful act is despicable and the guilty will regret their actions in due course of time.

They maintained, it was too typical of the Akalis to intimidate their political opponents by resorting to violence and that too under the patronage of the government. Warning the Akalis against dangerous consequences of such actions, the Congress leaders said, the days of the Akali government were numbered.

Expressing full solidarity with the victims, Khangura hoped that the culprits would be brought to the book at the earliest. Otherwise the Congress will have no option but to launch a mass protest.

Those who visited the hospital included among others Sukhi Dhillon member block Samiti, Harjinder Dhindsa, Karnail Singh Gill, Balwant Dhanoa and Gurpreet Khangura.
