International Malaria Day - 25/04/2011

25th April Ludhiana:"To mark International Malaria Day Bibi Gurdial Kaur Khangura mother of Jassi Khangura MLA Qila Raipur today distributed 50 mosquito nets to women in village Salempur Tiba.  The nets have been funded by LifeBuilder, a UK registered charity that funds projects for alleviation and social upliftment in Punjab.

In a statement Bibi Gurdial Kaur Khangura said "prevention is acknowledged worldwide as the solution to the ongoing serious issue of malaria in developing nations. By giving these nets to mothers, and asking them to protect their children, we are giving that family an opportunity for a malaria free existence."

Bibi Khangura added, said "one of the simplest ways to save lives in poor rural communities is with a mosquito net. Yet many families do not use them. We are proud to provide these nets for distribution by the Khanguras and are sure that as a result, this year, some families will not suffer from this preventable disease."

Bibi Gurdial Kaur Khangura encouraged the women to be vigilant against malaria both by preventing the pooling at water in or near their homes and also by ensuring maximum protection or their children. Bibi Khangura added that she would work hard to promote malaria prevention awareness throughout the constituency.
