Punjab orders timely filing of appeals in cases of village common lands

Chandigarh: The Punjab government has issued directions to all officers concerned to file timely appeals before the competent authority or court in all such cases where claims under Sections 7 and 11 of the Punjab Village Common Lands (Regulation) Act, 1961, are decided against the panchayats.
Announcing this here on Thursday, an official spokesperson of the Punjab government said it had been noticed that the cases related to gram panchayat land of the villages under Sections 7 and 11 of the Punjab Village Common Lands (Regulation) Act, 1961, which were/are decided against the gram panchayats are not appealed in time before the competent authorities resulting in alienation of the valuable panchayat land.
The spokesperson said the officers concerned had been directed to file appeals before the competent court of jurisdiction in all such cases where claims are decided against the panchayats before the collector or in appeal to the Commissioner. He said BDPOs had been asked to ensure that gram panchayats filed timely appeal and any irresponsibility shown in filling appeals against any appealable order would be taken seriously.
