‘Nari Shakti Puraskar’ for Punjab govt

CHANDIGARH : President Ram Nath Kovind on Thursday conferred the “Nari Shakti Puraskar” on the Punjab government for making outstanding contribution towards women empowerment.
The award was given to the state government at a function organised at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi, on the occasion of International Women’s Day. Razia Sultana, social security and women and child development minister, received the award on behalf of chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh. Special chief secretary (SS & WCD) KBS Sidhu and director Kavita Singh were accompanying the minister. Razia Sultana said the state has been selected for the “Nari Shakti Puraskar2017” for its consistent efforts and work demonstrating improvement in sex ratio at birth under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme.
