Chandigarh: Taking note of a news report in Hindustan Times ('Chicken pox exposes juvenile home's terrible condition', September 11) about the spread of the disease among inmates of the local Bal Sudhar Ghar, the Punjab State Human Rights Commission (PSHRC) has issued a notice to the additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP, prisons), calling for a report at least a week before November 23, when the case would come up for hearing.
The full bench of the commission registered the report as a complaint. HT had exposed how inmates had caught the infection due to the negligence of the authorities concerned.
During a visit to the juvenile home earlier this week, an HT team had found inmates living in deplorable conditions.
Three years ago, MP Avinash Rai Khanna, then a member of the commission, had visited the place and submitted a report on its deficiencies. However, the conditions have hardly improved.
