PATIALA: The five accused in the Patiala gangrape and suicide case were presented in the court of additional session judge Sanjeev Beri today.

It was however learnt that no proceedings took place and the court fixed the hearing for February 4.

The victim had named Balwinder Singh and Gurpreet Singh of Badshahpur responsible for driving her to commit a suicide, along with a woman Shinderpal Kaur.

In her suicide note, she had stated that the two accused, along with Shinderpal, had abducted her and had raped her at one Sandeep Singh’s tubewell on November 13.

She had clearly mentioned that she had reported the matter to the police but no action was taken and a case was only registered on November 27 under sections 363, 367, 376 and 34 of the IPC.

Even after the case was registered, the accused were not arrested by the police. Following police inaction, Harpreet Singh, DSP who was posted at Patran, was put under suspension and Gurcharan Singh, SHO at Ghagga and Nasib Singh, ASI choki in-charge of Badshahpur, were terminated from services.
