SANGRUR: The Sangrur police Thursday arrested the 50-year-old teacher who repeatedly raped an eighth standard student on the pretext of giving her free lessons at his residence.
Gurjant Singh, who taught maths at a government-run school in village Namola in Sunam , had been absconding since the matter became public five days ago.
The incident came to light when the school children spotted the teacher sexually exploiting the girl in a classroom during the school hours.
The students repotedly informed some teachers who in turn reported the matter to the parents of the girl.
The father of the girl, who works at a brick kiln, filed a police complaint on Thursday.
The teacher has been suspended by the education department. He has been booked for rape sexual exploitation of the teeange girl.
