MOHALI: Olympic medal winner Vijender Singh and his fellow boxer have been called by police for questioning after NRI arrested in major drug haul alleged that he has links with the boxer Vijender Singh. NRI Anoop Singh Kahlon has also alleged that he used to supply boxes of heroin to the boxer.
The revelation came after Fatehgarh Sahib police busted a drug peddling nexus between Indian and Western countries' drug traffickers by nabbing its main kingpin along with an ally by recovering 26 kilogram heroin worth Rs. 130 crore in the international market.
Anoop Singh Kahlon of village Jandu Singha falling under Maqsudan Police Station of Jalandhar district and his accomplice Kulwinder Singh alias Rocky of Nawan Sahar Badala falling under Kharar Police Station of Mohali district were arrested with 540 g of heroin and upon further questioning mentioned the names of the two boxers and claiming supplying heroin to them.
Further investigation by the police led to recovery of 26 kg of heroin worth Rs 130 crore, in Zirakpur flat of the traffickers. Meanwhile, Senior Superintendent of Police Man Singh, investigating the case, said the two sportspersons will be called in for investigation but they have no reason to believe the drug-traffickers.
It is pertinent to mention here that car of Vijender Singh’s wife was also discovered outside the same flat where heroin was recovered. However, no drugs were recovered from her car.
Meanwhile, Vijender Singh has denied any links with the accused and said his name was being misused. "I have no links with Kahlon and there is no truth in the media reports linking me to him. I have only met him on a couple of occasions through a person. But he is not my friend and I have no links with him," he reacted to the allegations.
He further said he was not aware of how the police had found his car at the flat in Zirakpur. He added that he had parked his car at National Institute of Sports in Patiala when he left for Mumbai.
