LUDHIANA: In another heinous crime against women in the state, a woman was gang-raped by four persons after she was given sedative-laced juice in Ludhiana.
The incident came to light when the woman, 38, a widow whose husband worked as a guard with BSNL, was found lying abandoned at a vacant plot on the Tajpur road here. She was immediately rushed to the civil hospital by ambulance after a passerby called in the service at 108.
In her statement to the police, the woman, who had come to Ludhiana to submit an application in regard to her deceased husband's pension, said that she was waiting for bus to Sangrur when a man, distantly related to her, came in a car with another man she did not recognise.
She said that the men gave her juice after drinking which she fell unconscious. The men allegedly took her to an undisclosed location where they and two thers raped her in turns and later dumped her at a vacant plot near the Ludhiana central jail on Tajpur road.
The woman has named three persons including Pyara, Rajinder, Kamal Sharma in her complaint.
The policemen from two police stations, division number 5 and 7 reportedly kept dilly-dallying about registering the case following concerns about jurisdiction.
