HOSHIARPUR: A 5-year-old boy and two women were killed and 11 injured, one of them seriously, as an Ace tempo rolled into a gorge near Manguwal on Hoshiarpur-Chintpurni road on Wednesday evening.

All passengers belonged to one extended family of Hazara Gatti Rajoke village in Ferozepur. They were going to pay obeisance at dera Baba Wadbhag Singh in Himachal Pardesh.

Pipal Singh, the driver of the vehicle (PB 05 W 9104), who escaped unhurt, said that he lost balance due to a sharp curve.

Passers-by, who saw the tempo fall, called the '108 ambulance' and informed the police. DSP (city) Digvijay Kapil and Sadar SHO Lakhvir Singh rushed to the spot. As the ambulance took time to arrive, a biker carried a seriously injured child, Shishan, to the civil hospital on his own but the child was declared brought dead.

An unknown woman, aged 20-22, and a 50-something woman Parkash Kaur also died in the accident. The injured were admitted to the civil hospital. 45-year-old Kaushalya, who had sustained serious injuries, was shifted to a private hospital.
