FARIDKOT: A 16-year-old school student has committed suicide here after being allegedly harassed and molestated by five youths, police said.
The girl, who had set herself ablaze on March 5, succumbed to her burns at Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital last evening. The girl had tried to commit suicide by pouring kerosene and setting herself on fire.
The police had arrested four persons on the complaint of victim's father, who is a rickshaw puller, on the day of the incident.
The Chief Judicial Magistrate, Faridkot, had recorded the dying declaration of the victim.
As per the FIR, the victim was "being harassed and molested by accused who lived in the neigbourhood. The victim even stopped going to the school after the accused intercepted her on the way. The victim took the extreme step when her father was assaulted by the accused."
