FATEHGARH SAHIB: Boxer Ram Singh has been remanded in judicial custody till April 23.
Ram Singh’s counsel Jashandeep Singh Sunam once again pleaded with the court that his client was innocent. The police had failed to recover drugs or any other such material from his possession.
Fatehgarh Sahib Police agreed to his statement before court, which remanded Ram Singh in judicial custody till April 23.Ram Singh was arrested by police for his alleged links with his brother-in-law Ravicharan Singh alias Ravi Deol. The latter is wanted by Sangrur police in a 2008 assault case and said to be settled somewhere in Mumbai.
Police had recovered 5 kg Ice (Methamphetamine) and 9o kg raw material worth Rs 115 crore from Sohian road residence of Ravi Deol. Ram Singh was dismissed from his service in Punjab police last month. The boxer’s family and counsel have been alleging that police have arrested Ram Singh to put pressure on Vijender Singh to join investigations.
Both Ram Singh and Vijender had been named by NRI drug-peddler Anoop Singh Kahlon as his customers after heroin worth Rs 130 crore was recovered from Kahlon’s Zirakpur residence.
Meanwhile, Ram Singh’s parents have urged Fatehgarh Sahib SSP Hardyal Singh Mann to consider his case in a sympathetic manner, keeping in mind his boxing career and give him an opportunity to mend himself.
