LUDHIANA: Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Manish Tewari today said that the Mission Ludhiana announced by the Punjab government was just “old wine in old bottles” as there was nothing new about it.

Addressing a public meeting in Ward No 67 at Chet Singh Nagar Tewari pointed out, most of the schemes mentioned in the so called mission were mostly sponsored by the central government. Even for the much trumpeted city bus service maximum amount of money was provided by the government of India under Jawahar Lal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission.

The minister reminded the Akalis that when they took over the government six and a half years ago they had claimed to turn Ludhiana into Paris. “But what they have turned Ludhiana into is before everybody to see”, he said, while referring to poor sanitation and civic amenities in the city, what to speak of providing facilities at a par with Paris.

Tewari said, outbreak of gastroenteritis has become a characteristic feature of the city every summer as the civic authorities have failed to learn any lessons from the past experiences. When they have failed to address the basic issues concerning the common people they have no right to mislead people with their false promises about impossible missions.

Among others present on the occasion included District Congress Committee Ludhiana president Pawan Dewan, Ashok Prashar Papi, K.K. Bawa, ward incharge Yadwinder Raju, ward president Jagtar Singh Sekh and others.
