Court reprieve for 14 Dera Sirsa followers in Sikh youth murder case

SANGRUR: In a reprieve to Dera Sacha Sauda, the district and sessions court, Sangrur, on Monday acquitted all 14 persons accused in the murder of a Sikh youth, Kamaljit Singh of Sangrur on May 17, 2007. The youth died in a clash between followers of Dera Sacha Sauda and Sikhs at Naam Charcha Ghar of Sacha Sauda sect in Sunam.
The judge, in his order, gave the benefit of doubt to the accused and took the prosecution to task for failing to build a convincing case. The acquitted include: Satpal Singh, Sukhwinder Singh, Ajaib Singh, Megh Singh, Jagseer Singh, Kala Singh alias Rajveer Singh, Kala Singh, Ram Prakash, Rajesh Kumar, Mohinder Singh, Jeet Singh, Bhola Singh, Bhajan Singh and Harnek Singh. One accused Sadha Singh died during trial.
The accused were booked under section 302 of IPC and section 25 of Arms Act. Kamaljit Singh’s father, however, later said that he would now knock on the doors of Punjab and Haryana High Court to seek justice.
