Acid attack on 22-year-old bride at Ludhiana parlour

Ludhiana : A 22-year-old girl getting her bridal makeup done got severe burn injuries after a young boy threw acid on her face at a beauty parlour here on Saturday morning.

Three others were injured in the attack.

The 22-year-old victim, a resident of Barnala, was rushed to DMC Hospital where her condition was stated to be stable, police said.

The boy, aged about 25 years, managed to escape on a vehicle parked outside the beauty parlour in Sarabha Nagar locality, Commissioner of Police N S Dhillon said.

He said that based on the preliminary details provided by the victim’s family, the boy also belonged to Barnala. Dhillon said the boy used to make threatening calls to the girl asking her to marry him or face the consequences. The accused is the brother of a friend of the victim, police said, adding that police parties had been sent to Barnala to nab the boy.

In the acid attack, two beauticians of the parlour and another client whose marriage was also fixed for Saturday suffered burn injuries.

All the four victims were rushed to the DMC hospital, where their condition was stated to be stable.The victim suffered 60 per cent injuries on her face, hands and chest, whereas the other bride suffered minor burns on her neck and was discharged after treatment.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Harsh Bansal, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Joginder Singh, ACP Gurpreet Purewal along with a large police force reached the hospital and initiated investigation in the case.

The family members of the groom were basically from Doraha, 25 km from Ludhiana, but now residing in Kolkata. A close relative of the groom said the incident had left the families shocked and they suspected the hand of professional criminals behind the incident.

Beauty parlour owner Sanjay Goyal said the accused entered the saloon and asked for the victim at the reception and then poured acid at her.

The police also took CCTV footage in their possession.

Police said the accused also left a letter before pouring the acid. In the letter, the accused mentioned that “we are in relation from last three years and now I cannot see you getting married with someone”. A case has been registered against the accused under Sections 326-B and 307 of the IPC.
