Chandigarh : Director General of Police Sumedh Singh on Tuesday vowed to deal with the menace of drugs in an effective manner and take on those involved in the illegal trade of drugs with an iron hand.
A 1982-batch IPS officer Sumedh held a series of meetings with senior police officers after resuming the charge on Tuesday.
He asked the police to take ahead the crusade, which he had launched against the drugs, to the next level and act with a mission to end the menace once for all. DGP also reiterated his resolve to keep the law and order situation under control and crack the whip on activities of anti-social elements. He also renewed his strong commitment to continue the crusade against the drugs and street crime.
Sumedh had resumed the office after the end of his earned leave since April 4. During his leave period, Sumedh’s batch mate Suresh Arora was posted DGP.
Sumedh was on Monday evening posted back DGP while Arora was posted Chief Director of Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB).
An order to this effect was issued by Principal Secretary Home Affairs and Justice Sarwan Singh Channy.
During his tenure as DGP, Sumedh had successfully controlled snatchings and street crime besides maintaining the law and order situation even during the times when Balwant Singh Rajoana and other such sensitive issues had created much provocation among certain sections of the society. He was also credited of busting several terror modules, which were determined to revive terrorism in Punjab.
