Fulfill poll promises: Bajwa to Badal

The Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president, Partap Bajwa, today urged Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to fulfill his poll promises.
To begin with, Bajwa said, the state government should fix the MSP for paddy on the basis of the recommendations made by the Swaminathan Committee from the forthcoming paddy season.
“PM Narendra Modi and Badal had issues advertisements before the elections promising MSP for food grain as per the Swaminathan report,” he said.
Bajwa said the MS Swaminathan Committee had recommended that the farmers be ensured at least 50 per cent profit over and above the cost of production for all the crops for which the MSP was fixed by the government at the Centre. “Badal had all along been assuring the farming community that it will be implemented once the NDA comes to power. Badal must give priority to this promise and get the MSP announced at least for paddy,” he said.
