Channy sworn in Chief Information Commissioner

Chandigarh : Punjab Governor Shivraj Vishwanath Patil on Wednesday administered the oath of office and allegiance to Constitution to newly-appointed Chief Information Commissioner Sarwan Singh Channy in a brief ceremony at Punjab Raj Bhavan here.

A retired IAS officer, Channy had held various key positions in the Punjab government, including those of Principal Secretary (Home), NRI Affairs, Financial Commissioner (Appeals), Markfed Managing Director and Ludhiana Deputy Commissioner before attaining superannuation in May this year.

Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, Vidhan Sabha Speaker Charanjit Singh Atwal, Cabinet Ministers Bikram Singh Majithia, Sikandar Singh Maluka, Ajit Singh Kohar and Daljit Singh Cheema, Chief Parliamentary Secretary Parkash Chand Garg, and former Minister Sarwan Singh Phillaur were also present on the occasion. Former Chief Information Commissioner Ramesh Inder Singh, all the Information Commissioners, Chief Commissioner Punjab Right to Service Commission S C Agrawal, former Chief Secretary Rajan Kashyap, and a number of serving and retired bureaucrats of state also attended the oath-taking ceremony.

Earlier, Chief Secretary Sarvesh Kaushal sought the permission of the Governor to start the swearing-in ceremony, which was concluded with National Anthem.
