MOGA: Hundreds of Congress workers, led by Darshan Singh Brar, former minister and president of the district Congress committee ( DCC), staged a protest outside the district administration complex here on Friday. They were protesting against the ‘unfair’ distribution of blue cards in all villages and towns of the district.
The protesters blocked the Mo g a- Fero z e pur national highway symbolically for a few minutes and raised antigovernment slogans. After that, they handed over a memorandum to deputy commissioner Parminder Singh Gill.
Addressing the gathering, Brar said, “The Punjab government is playing with the sentiments of the poor people by distributing blue cards to the people who were not eligible. We demand a transparent inquiry into the matter and also a fresh survey of the district.”
Brar said that the blue cards, which have been given to the rich and pro-Akali beneficiaries, should be cancelled immediately.
“The SAD-BJP is fully responsible for damaging the culture of the state. On the other hand, all the sections of the society have been crying for justice, but nobody is paying attention to the grievances of the people,” said Brar.
“The Badals are using the opportunity given to them by the people for governance to beef up their businesses and amass wealth. The Bharatiya Janata Party was playing to the tunes of the SAD for petty interests and ignoring the interests of the people,” said the former minister.
Anit Datta, observer of the Punjab Pradesh Cong ress Committee (PPCC), Dr Harjot Kamal, secretary of PPCC, Kamaljit Singh Brar, secretary of the Punjab Youth Congress, city Congress president Upinder Gill, Dr Tara Singh Sandhu, former president of district Congress committee also addressed the workers.
