12 NRHM workers injured in police action at Lambi

Lambi (Muktsar) : Around 12 activists of the NRHM Employees’ Union, including some women, were injured after the police resorted to cane charge, used water cannons and lobbed tear-gas shells at Lambi village in Muktsar district this afternoon. Hundreds of NRHM workers had gathered at Lambi village to stage a state-level protest demanding regularisation of their services and better pay scales.
They had given a call in advance to gherao Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal’s residence at Badal village on Wednesday. Today, when they started marching towards Badal village, policemen first put barricades on the National Highway to stop them. However, when the protesters did not relent, the police used force to disperse them.
A number of NRHM workers were injured in the police action. They were taken to the Community Health Centre (CHC), Lambi. Later, some of them were referred to Bathinda and Badal hospitals. The protesters cleared the highway after around 15 minutes. None from the ruling Badal family was present at their residence today.
