Punjab Mahila Congress seeks resignation of Giriraj Singh

Jalandhar : The Punjab Mahila Congress on Thursday burnt the effigy of Union Minister of State of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Giriraj Singh for making indecent remarks about Congress President Sonia Gandhi and sought his resignation.

Punjab Mahila Congress president Kittu Grewal along with District Congress (Urban) president Rajinder Beri, Leader of opposition in Municipal Corporation Jagdish Raj Raja and local councilors led a protest at the local Football Chowk demanding his immediate resignation from the cabinet rank government. Kittu lambasted Giriraj Singh and said that by making such an indecent statement about Congress president Sonia Gandhi, he has shown his level of thinking. “If Giriraj had no respect for a woman leader like Sonia Gandhi, one can easily imagine the amount of respect he might be having for woman in general”, she said.

Notably, Union Minister of State Giriraj Singh brought was facing a scathing attack from all the political parties and the public, after he said on Tuesday, “If Rajiv Gandhi had married a Nigerian lady and not a white-skinned woman, then would the Congress have accepted her leadership?”

The Congress workers said that Sonia Gandhi was not just a political leader but also daughter-in-law of the nation, as she was married to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. “In our country, a daughter-in-law is treated like a daughter but Giriraj Singh crossed all limits by making indecent remark about her. Giriraj has no right to remain a minister in the Modi government, hence we seek his resignation”, he added.
