MULLANPUR: Activists of the Punjab Youth Congress (PYC) led by Indian Youth Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring organised a protest march at the Siswan T point, near Mullanpur, in SAS Nagar, against the alleged violation of rules in the construction of a road leading to a resort owned by the Badals at Palanpur village in SAS Nagar district. The protesters wanted to plant a sapling on the sides of the road leading to the resort, but were stopped the police as barricades had been erected.

They also faced water cannons, were lathi-charged and detained at the Mullanpur police station and were released after two hours. Some protesters alleged that they were injured in the police action.
“We will soon approach the environment ministry and take up the issue of felling down of tress on the approach road from Siswan T-point to Badal resort. An inquiry must be conducted into the environment clearances granted for the road.
We will also file an application under the Right to Information Act to know the irregularities committed during the master plan for Mullanpur,” Warring further said.
He added that Badal family’s rule had led to unemployment for the state’s youth and financial bankruptcy. “Agriculture in the state has been ruined due to the faulty policy. The recent cess on fuel has added to farmers’ costs,” he claimed.
All-India Congress Committee (AICC) spokesperson Vijay Inder Singla claimed that party vicepresident Rahul Gandhi had been fighting for the interests of farmers and had even visited the mandis in the state to know the farmers’ problems and find a cure.
Others leaders participating in the protest included AICC secretary Kuljit Singh Nagra, Kharar MLA Jagmohan Singh Kang and PYC president Vikramjit Chaudhary.
