Cong protests ‘harassment’ of family by cops

Tarn Taran : Congress workers today held a dharna outside the SSP’s office to protest against the alleged police atrocities on a family of Doblian village.
Traffic remained disrupted for several hours on the road. Balwinder Kaur, who was leading a large number of her family members and relatives, alleged the Chabal police had been harassing the family for the past few months. She alleged on March12, a group of armed persons opened fire outside her house. She alleged when the family filed a complaint, the Chabal police instead registered a criminal case against her son Maghar Singh and his minor sons.
She said the family had been demanding cancellation of the case, besides taking action against those responsible for the firing incident. She alleged the police by conducting raids at her house had ruined their business.
Dr Dharamveer Agnihotri, former district president of the Congress, alleged the police was working under political pressure and had registered a false case against the family. Manmohan Kumar Sharma, SSP, assured the family of justice by reinvestigating the matter.
