Govt fails to check human rights violations in state, says Cong

RUPNAGAR: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) human rights cell chairman and former MLA, Shamsher Singh Rai has alleged that human rights were being violated in the state.

He said this while addressing a gathering at a function organised at the local Congress Bhawan.

He added the state government had failed to keep a check on the human right violation in the state and the Centre has too failed to make the life of common man easier.

He said that murders and rapes had become a routine affair in the country.

Moreover, farmers were committing suicide everyday due to the wrong policies of the state and central governments.

Rai, who was honoured by the District Congress Committee (DCC) on the occasion, thanked Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Partap Singh Bajwa for appointing him as the chairman.

He assured that he would raise the voice against the human rights violations taking place in the state.

He also assured help to the victims of human rights violations.

Meanwhile, the District Congress Committee president, Harbhag Singh Saini, expressed hope that Rai would work for strengthening the party.

Former District Congress Committee president Amarjit Singh Saini, former Punjab Youth Congress president Bhupesh Sharma, senior Congress leaders Ramesh Goyal, Ravinder Diwan, Gurinder Singh Gogi, RN Modgil, Amandeep Singh Mangat, Ashwani Sharma, Ajit Pal Singh and Zorawar Singh Bittu, also spoke on the occasion.
