Faridkot : Thousands of students, farmers and labour union members from different corners of the state assembled in Faridkot today. They staged a protest demanding the filing of a criminal case against Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal in the Moga bus molestation case and cancellation of road permits of Orbit Aviation which he co-owns.
Amid the deployment of a huge number of police personnel, they also demanded the immediate release of 12 students, including a girl, who were arrested by the Faridkot police on May 6 during a demonstration against the alleged molestation of a minor girl in an Orbit Transport Company bus in Moga.
The protesters, led by the Punjab Students Union (PSU), Naujawan Bharat Sabha and BKU (Ekta-Ugrahan), marched through the main streets of the city and ended their demonstration in front of the mini-secretariat in Faridkot after the police blocked all ways to the office of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP).
Supported by the members of various trade unions and 17 farmer organisations from the state, the PSU raised slogans against the Badal family and demanded that a criminal case be registered against the owners of the Orbit buses.
BKU (Ekta-Ugrahan) leaders said the permits of Orbit buses must be cancelled, alleging that private transporters were flouting the Motor Vehicles Act with impunity.
