JALANDHAR: A former Congress councillor from Kapurthala has levelled allegations against five Shiromani Akali Dal-Bharatiya Janata Party councillors after they allegedly stalled construction work on her land and threatened to kill her husband.

Savita Chaudhary, a former Congress councilor, said she had cleared all legal formalities and got the No Objection Certificate (NOC) to build commercial and residential plots on 148-marla land from the town planning department.

Despite the clearance certificate, she failed to develop the property into commercial plots, allegedly as successive government councillors wanted that property and posed hurdles in the construction.

Chaudhary alleged that the vice-president of Nagar Council of Kapurthala, Hardyal Singh, Nagar councillor, Harbans Singh, Rajinder Singh, Manhoman Singh and Kulwant Singh, councillors, threatened her husband Gurwinder Singh Chaudhary and allegedly beat him up on the land on June 14.

She alleged that when her husband went to the site to begin the work of laying sewerage pipes to divert the flow of sewage on to the land on June 14, the accused also reached there and stopped the construction work.

Although Hardyal Singh, refuted allegations, he said the work was illegal, which is why the Nagar Council stopped the work.

She claimed that due to political pressure, administrative and Nagar Council officials had failed to take any action. “I have filed many complaints regarding the overflow of sewage, but nothing has been done in this regard by the authorities. Even police officers have refused to register a case,” Chaudhary added.

She demanded strict action against the SAD councillors.
