Chandigarh : The Punjab Congress and the Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) have rejected the “meagre” hike in the MSP of paddy by the Modi-led NDA government.
The Centre has hiked the MSP by Rs50 per quintal to Rs1,410 per quintal for the current kharif season.
Punjab Congress chief Partap Singh Bajwa demanded Rs500 per quintal hike in the MSP, terming the “meagre” hike as a “cruel joke” with the farmers.
“Here is yet another decision that exposes the anti-farmer face of the Narendra Modi government of which the SAD is a partner. The MSP will not even cover the cost of inputs. The BJP in its poll manifesto had promised the fixation of MSP in accordance with the Swaminathan Commission recommendations,” he alleged.
Punjab Mandi Board chairman and farmer leader Ajmer Singh Lakhowal has rejected the paddy MSP hike terming it as a "fraud" with farmers.
