RUPNAGAR: Wearing black badges and raising slogans, workers of the Congress party held a demonstration here on Tuesday to protest against the suspension of 25 of their members of parliament (MPs) from Lok Sabha.
Holding them guilty of causing disorder in the parliament, Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan had suspended the Congress MPs for five days on Monday. Rupnagar District Congress Committee’s president Harbhag Singh Saini termed Mahajan’s decision “undemocratic” and said that the speaker had acted under pressure from the BJP.
“The Modi government has lost its base and is resorting to unethical tactics to throttle the opposition voice,” Saini said and added that they would not tolerate undemocratic actions of the government.
