AMRITSAR: The Amritsar city police have booked nine people in connection with firing at former Congress councillor Joginderpal, alias, Ginda, at Gujjarpura on Monday night, in which he suffered three bullet injuries.

Police said the armed accused came in a car and fired six shots at Ginda, of which three hit him in chest, waist and leg. As a result, said police, he fell on the ground and was rushed to a hospital.

Attending doctors said Ginda was out of danger, said subinspector (SI) Ramesh Chander of the C Division police station, who is investigating the case.

The SI attributed the incident to a dispute between the accused and the Ginda’s family. “The accused had fired at Ginda and his kin at least four times in the past two years,” said the SI.

Police have identified four accused as Bobby, Masti, Nageena, Gingi and Anand, and booked all nine under sections 307 (attempt to murder), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), and 149 of the IPC and sections of the Arms Act at the C-Division police station. None of the accused was arrested.
