Jalandhar: Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh will flag off a padyatra of the party’s state youth wing on January 4 to press for naming Chandigarh International Airport after freedom fighter Bhagat Singh. The padyatra from Khatkar Kallan to Mohali International Airport, to be flagged off by state Congress chief Amarinder Singh, is being held to press for naming Chandigarh/Mohali airport after Shaheed Bhagat Singh, a party spokesperson said here on Tuesday. The BJP government at the Centre at the behest of Haryana government has decided to name the airport after RSS leader and former Haryana Deputy Chief Minister, Mangal Sein, he said. With the Akali-BJP government in Punjab virtually maintaining silence over the issue, the state Congress has decided to intensify the agitation, the spokesperson said. The padyatra, to be led by Punjab Youth Congress chief Amarjit Laly, he added.
