Barnala : Following the arrest of the remaining two accused in the suicide case of Gurbans Singh of Jagjitpura village, near Tapa, his cousin ended his protest at the grain market of the village today.
Kulwant Singh climbed atop a makeshift tower at the market on January 25, demanding arrest of the two. Villagers had also begun a dharna near the tower. They alleged the police were shielding the accused under police pressure.
With today’s arrests, all three accused in the case have been held. Kesar Singh, Tapa DSP, said Dogar Singh and Raj Singh had been arrested. The third accused, Mahinder Ram, was held earlier, he added.
The DSP said Dogar Singh was today produced in a court at Barnala that remanded him in police custody for a day. Raj Singh would be produced in the court tomorrow, he added.
In his suicide note, Gurbans Singh had held Akali leader Dogar Singh, Raj Singh, former sarpanch of Jagjitpura village, and Mahinder Ram, a scrap dealer of Ugoke village, responsible for his death.
