SAD giving tube well connections to its men: Congress

Gurdaspur : The Congress has alleged that the SAD-BJP combine had handed over 250 tube well connections each to its ministers, MLAs and halqa in charges for further distribution.
Despite the fact that the CM has reiterated that halqa in charges do not have any power, the government in view of the elections next year will distribute 80,000 connections through them. Out of these, 29,500 will be directly distributed to farmers on Akali leaders’ instructions. Sources say the Akalis are targeting their core vote bank-farmers.
Congress leaders protest, saying that distributing tube well connections through unelected leaders defied logic. “The connections should be distributed through elected representatives. We are planning to move the Punjab and Haryana High court over the issue,” said a former Cabinet Minister.
Akali leaders have made lists. To give the entire move political and bureaucratic legitimacy, the deputy commissioners have been asked to forward the applications they receive from these leaders to the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) authorities.
The PSPCL officials, whose authority has now been reportedly diminished, claimed they were unaware of any such move.
