Abohar : Hundreds of MGNREGA workers staged a dharna at the Block Development and Panchayat office here.
They raised slogans against the state government for two hours. MGNREGA District Workers’ Union president Deep Chand Sain flayed the authorities for not paying dues and giving them work only for 10 days against the statutory provision of 100 days.
“The ruling politicians have been making false claims over pension schemes but hundreds of elderly men and women, widows have been running from pillar to post, but their cases are yet to be decided,” he alleged.
The protesters lifted the dharna following an assurance by Block Development and Panchayat Officer Baljit Kaur Dhillon about resolving the issue by next month. They later marched to the subdivisional complex and submitted a memorandum to the sub-divisional magistrate.
