Group clash claims life of YC activist

Ludhiana : A deadly clash between two groups of youngsters associated with Youth Congress in Jagraon claimed the life of a youth on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday. The rivalry between two groups started during the Youth Congress elections a few months ago and it took an ugly shape when the members of one group opened fire on the victim.

The deceased has been identified as Hardeep Singh alias Patwari. He was an active Youth Congress worker. The Jagraon Police have initiated investigation and registered a murder case in this context.

According to the information, the two groups entered into clash at grain market of Kaunke Kalan in Jagraon late on Tuesday night and some persons opened fired on the Lancer car in which victim Hardeep Singh was sitting. The bullet hit Hardeep and he was rushed to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital in Ludhiana where he died on Wednesday while undergoing treatment.

Station House officer at Police Station Kaunke Kalan Jaswinder Singh said that both the groups were having an old rivalry and entered into a clash. Following the statement of brother of deceased, a case has been registered against Balwinder Singh alias Lakha Galib, Simranjeet Singh, Inderjeet Singh and Gurminder Singh under Section 32 (murder) and Arms Act. The SHO said they have launched manhunt for the arrest of the accused.
