JALANDHAR: Youth Congress Jalandhar Lok Sabha held a protest on Monday against the alleged SC Scholarship scam. The members also burnt an effigy of Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal. During the protest, the members organised a march past from the Congress Bhawan to deputy commissioner’s (DC) office.
Ashwani Bhalla, president of the youth Congress led the protest and alleged that the funds which come for SC students have been misused by the Punjab government in Sangat darshans.
He further said that after much uproar over the issue, deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal had marked an inquiry to vigilance but till now no investigation has been done in this regard.
Members of the youth Congress demanded that vigilance inquiry should be started on priority so that the students are not deprived of their rights.
Earlier, Sunil Jakhar had also accused the SAD-BJP government of failing to get grants under the Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme for scheduled caste students from the Centre and claimed that the scholarship meant exclusively for SC students worth `772 crore are still unpaid for the session 2014-15.
The former leader of opposition had said that the delay had happened because the Punjab government had submitted wrong utilisation certificates with the Union social justice and empowerment minister and the ministry in return had refused to make further payments.
