Faridkot : Over 10 days after a Dalit daily wager, his wife and two teenaged daughters ended their lives, his other two daughters have accused the police of shielding an Akali leader whose names figures in the suicide note.
Sisters Simarjit Kaur and Kuldeep Kaur today threatened not to perform the bhog till all accused persons, including SAD leader and District Planning Board chairman Harjit Singh Bholuwala, were arrested for abetment of suicide.
On September 22, Jagtar Singh, Salwinder Kaur and their daughters Harbhajan Kaur and Parveen Kaur had jumped into a canal after leaving a note accusing eight persons of forcing them to take the extreme step.
SSP DS Mann said a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was probing the case. He said the note had been sent to a Patiala-based forensic science laboratory to check its authenticity, adding that action would be taken as per the report.
Deputy Commissioner MS Jaggi said VK Meena, Commissioner of Faridkot and Ferozepur divisions, was also investigating the case on the directions of the state government.
He said the district administration had received Rs 10 lakh from the government as compensation to the family. The money will be handed over to them at the bhog, he added.
