TARN TARAN: Congress started registration under Captain Smart Connect scheme launched by Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Captain Amarinder Singh to woo the youth for the upcoming assembly polls, here on Sunday.
UNDER THIS SCHEME, THE CAPTAIN HAS PROMISED THE YOUTH TO DIGITALLY CONNECT THEM WITH THE WORLD AND EMPOWER THEM
Under this scheme, Amarinder Singh has promised the youth to digitally connect them with the world and empower them by providing a smartphone with internet facility.
Desks have been set up at various places in Bauhri Chowk (Tarn Taran), Gurdwara Baba Buddha (Chabhal), Kulla Chowk, close to Shaheed Bhagat Singh College (Patti), Gurdwara Sri Darbar Sahib (Khadoor Sahib) and Bhikiwind Chowk (Khemkaran).
Congress workers, supported by the party’s student and youth wings – National Students Union of India (NSUI) and Indian Youth Congress (IYC) members, run the registration desks.
On the first day in Tarn Taran, about 5% of the overall registration across Punjab was witnessed. 88% of those who have been registered from Tarn Taran are men and 12% women, said Sukhpal Singh Bhullar, district president.
He said, “With another three days to go, the scheme is expected to touch unparalleled levels of success, reaching out to a vast majority of the state’s youth who have been completely alienated from the mainstream as a result of the Badal’s antiyouth policies.”
“Once it comes to power, the Punjab Congress will provide 50 lakh smartphones to the youth, with one year of free data and calling. The party will make an allocation in the state budget to meet the cost of the scheme,” he added.
