Punjab Pardesh Congress Committee president Capt Amarinder Singh on Tuesday categorically made it clear to the Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal that he will not let them plunder the gurdwaras (Sikh shrines).

While referring to CM Parkash Singh Badal and Deputy CM, Capt Amarinder said, “You have robbed Punjab all these years and now you are trying to do the same with the gurdwaras which I will not let you do,” and added, “You should better be content with sand, gravel, transport, cable and liquor but spare God’s place at least”.

Addressing a public rally here, Capt Amarinder ridiculed Sukhbir who had said that the deficit in Gurdwaras should not be politicised. “Should that mean we allow the loot go unchecked?” he asked Sukhbir while referring to Rs 24 crore deficit in Darbar Sahib popularly known as Golden Temple.

He said that though gurdwaras were not run for profits but at the same time these could not be allowed to be looted by anyone including the Badals. He pointed out that it was for the first time in history that Darbar Sahib was running into deficit and asked Badals to explain where all the money went despite massive offerings.

The former chief minister pointed out how the Akalis had destroyed and devastated Punjab and it was on the verge of bankruptcy with debt touching Rs 1.72 lakh crore. He said there was widespread unemployment and disillusionment among the youth as the Akali-BJP government had failed to bring in industry and investment in Punjab.
