Punjab Pardesh Congress Committee president Amarinder Singh on Monday welcomed the Cabinet clearance to the National Food Security Bill. He said the bill was a revolutionary step towards eliminating hunger and poverty from the country.
Amarinder said the act would benefit lakhs of families in Punjab. He said it could not have come at a better time as the country’s poor will now be entitled to highly subsidized food at affordable prices and would improve the health of a huge majority. Moreover, there were other important features like providing help and aid to the expectant and lactating mothers as well.
Congratulating the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, as it is her brainchild, for the visionary law that will virtually banish hunger from the country, the PPCC president said she had proved that the Congress was committed for the welfare of the common people, particularly the poor.
